This Privacy Policy describes how FILab Platform Service, LLC (“we”, “us”, or “our”) handles information
when you use the File + application for Android phones and Android TV (package name
com.fileplus.filab, the “App”).
File + is a file manager that helps you browse, organize, open, share, compress, extract, and protect files on your device and on storage services you connect. Most files and settings stay on your device. The phone app can also check files for malware. That check sends a file hash to our scan service, and, only when you start a scan and the file is not already known, may upload that file so we can produce a verdict.
See also our Terms of Service.
1. Summary
- We do not sell your personal information.
- We do not upload your local files to our servers, except when a phone malware scan uploads an unknown file as described below.
- Opening a file or finishing a download sends only a cryptographic hash for a malware lookup. It does not upload the file.
- Cloud, FTP, and torrent features connect directly from your device to third-party services or servers you choose.
- Google Drive is optional. Information received from Google APIs is used only to provide file features in the App and follows Google’s Limited Use requirements.
- Security settings such as app lock and file lock credentials are stored locally on your device using encryption.
- The phone app may show ads through Google AdMob. File + Premium is an optional Google Play subscription that removes ads. Phone and TV share one Premium subscription on the same Google account, on up to 3 devices.
2. Information We Process
Depending on how you use the App, the following information may be processed:
2.1 Files and media on your device
With your permission, the App accesses files, folders, and media stored on your device or removable storage so you can browse, search, copy, move, rename, delete, compress, share, preview, and manage them. This includes optional access to hidden system files when you enable that setting.
2.2 App activity stored on your device
The App may store the following locally to provide its features:
- Recent search keywords and recently opened files
- Trash / recycle bin metadata
- Download and transfer progress for torrent and remote downloads
- Your preferences and security settings
- Encrypted credentials for FTP connections and cloud account tokens after you sign in
- Encrypted app lock credentials (PIN, pattern, or password) if you enable App Lock
- Encrypted file lock passwords (stored as secure hashes) for files you choose to lock
- Whether File + Premium is active on this installation, based on Google Play
2.3 Account information from connected cloud services
If you connect Google Drive, Dropbox, or OneDrive, the App uses OAuth to authenticate with the provider you choose. Depending on the provider and the permissions you grant, the App may receive:
- Basic profile information (such as your name and email address)
- OAuth access tokens and refresh tokens needed to access your cloud files
- File and folder metadata and content for files you open, upload, download, move, rename, or delete through the App
Google Drive. Connecting Google Drive is optional. You can skip it and connect later in Settings. When you connect, the App requests permission to:
- See and download files and folders already in your Google Drive (
drive.readonly) - Create, upload, and change files you save to Google Drive with the App (
drive.file) - See the email address of the connected Google account (
userinfo.email)
Signing in to File + with Google is separate from connecting Drive. That sign-in shares your name, email address, and profile picture so the App can show your account and share File + Premium on that Google account.
File + uses Google Drive data only so you can browse, download, upload, and organize those files inside the App. Drive file contents and access tokens stay on your device and are exchanged only between your device and Google. We do not sell Google user data, use it for advertising, or allow people at FILab Platform Service, LLC to read it. Disconnecting Google Drive in Settings removes the stored tokens from the App.
File +’s use and transfer of information received from Google APIs to any other app will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
2.4 FTP and other remote storage
If you add an FTP server, you provide the server address and credentials. The App stores those credentials locally in encrypted storage and connects directly to the server you specify to list, download, and upload files.
2.5 Torrent downloads
If you add torrent downloads, the App connects to torrent networks and peers over the internet to download content you request. Network peers may see your IP address as part of normal torrent protocol operation. Downloaded files are saved to storage locations you choose on your device.
2.6 Malware scan (phones)
On phones, File + can check downloads and user-installed apps for malware. Android TV does not run this check. The App computes a SHA-256 hash on your device and sends that hash to our scan service. The lookup does not include the file itself.
If you start a scan and the service does not already know that hash, and the file is 32 MB or smaller, the App may upload the file so the service can analyze it and return a verdict. App packages are checked by hash only and are not uploaded. The App may also send a download URL you asked it to check.
Scan results, including the file name, path or package name, hash, and verdict, are stored on your device. We use uploaded files and hashes to produce and cache malware verdicts. We do not use them to build a personal library of your files.
2.7 Advertising (Google AdMob)
If ads are enabled and File + Premium is not active, the phone app may display advertisements provided by Google AdMob. AdMob and its partners may collect and use information to deliver, measure, and personalize ads, which may include:
- Advertising ID (AAID) and other device identifiers
- IP address and general device information (such as device model and OS version)
- Ad interaction data (such as impressions and clicks)
- Approximate location derived from IP address
We do not receive the contents of your files for advertising purposes. Ad partners process this information under their own privacy policies. In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland, the phone app shows Google’s consent message before requesting ads, so you can allow or refuse personalized ads and manage ad partners. Ad privacy at the bottom of Settings reopens that message so you can change or withdraw the choice. In certain US states, the phone app follows Google’s US state privacy message when a choice is required before ads are requested. You can also limit personalized advertising in your Android device settings (for example, “Opt out of Ads Personalization”). An active File + Premium subscription stops in-App ad display after Google Play confirms it.
2.8 File + Premium (Google Play subscription)
File + Premium is an optional subscription processed by Google Play. It removes ads on one Google account, on up to 3 devices, and phone and TV share that subscription. The App may ask you to sign in with Google before you subscribe. You can cancel anytime in Google Play.
We receive subscription status from Google, such as whether Premium is active, so we can turn ads off. We do not receive your full payment card number or other sensitive payment credentials.
2.9 Information we do not collect
We do not require you to create a FILab Platform Service, LLC account to use the App. Aside from the malware-scan uploads described above, we do not collect the contents of your files on our servers. We do not operate our own analytics platform for tracking your in-App file activity.
3. How We Use Information
We use the information described above only to:
- Provide file management, preview, search, organization, sharing, and cleanup features
- Connect to cloud storage, FTP, and torrent sources you configure
- Enforce App Lock and File Lock protections you enable
- Show download progress and send local notifications about ongoing transfers when permitted
- Remember your settings and recent activity within the App
- Check files and user-installed apps for malware on phones, and return a verdict
- Display ads unless File + Premium is active, and verify your subscription with Google Play
- Respond to support requests you send to us
4. Device Permissions
The App may request the following Android permissions:
- Storage and media access — to read and manage files and media on your device
- All files access (Manage external storage) — optional, for full file manager functionality on supported Android versions
- Internet and network state — for cloud sign-in, FTP, torrent downloads, malware checks, ads, subscriptions, and remote file access
- Installed apps — so Open with can find an app, and so a phone malware scan can check user-installed apps by hash
- Notifications — to show download and transfer status
- Foreground service — to continue downloads and media playback while the App is in the background
You can change many permissions in your device settings. Some features will not work without the permissions they require.
5. Where Data Is Stored
- On your device: files, preferences, encrypted security data, cached previews, trash metadata, connected-service tokens, malware verdicts, and Premium status
- On third-party services: files and account data held by Google, Dropbox, Microsoft, FTP hosts, torrent peers, Google Play, or ad partners according to their policies
- On our scan service: SHA-256 hashes, malware verdicts, download URLs you ask us to check, and file bytes only when a phone scan uploads an unknown file of 32 MB or less
6. Sharing of Information
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. Information may be shared only in these cases:
- With your direction: when you share a file, open a file in another app, or upload/download through a connected service
- With service providers you connect or that power the App: Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, FTP servers, torrent peers, Google Play Billing, Google AdMob, and their partners, according to your actions and their policies
- For legal reasons: if required by applicable law, regulation, legal process, or enforceable governmental request
- To protect rights and safety: when we believe disclosure is necessary to protect users, FILab Platform Service, LLC, or others from harm or illegal activity
7. Third-Party Services
Features of the App rely on third-party services that have their own privacy policies and terms, including:
- Google Privacy Policy (Sign-In, Drive, Play, AdMob)
- Dropbox Privacy Policy
- Microsoft Privacy Statement
- Google AdMob & advertising partners
- Google Play Payments privacy notice
Your use of those services through File + is also governed by the applicable provider terms. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of third-party services or servers you choose to access.
8. Security
We use reasonable technical measures to protect sensitive App data on your device, including encrypted storage for app lock settings, file lock data, and saved FTP/cloud credentials where supported by Android. No method of electronic storage or transmission is completely secure. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your device, cloud accounts, and lock credentials.
9. Data Retention
Information stored on your device remains until you delete it, clear App data, uninstall the App, or use in-App features such as emptying trash or disconnecting a cloud account. OAuth tokens are removed when you disconnect a cloud provider in the App or clear App data. Premium status follows your Google Play subscription and can be restored on another device signed in with the same Google account, on up to 3 devices, subject to Google Play policies. Hashes and files sent to the scan service are kept so we can reuse a verdict for the same hash.
10. Your Choices and Rights
- You can deny or revoke permissions in Android settings
- You can opt out of personalized ads in Android ad settings
- You can subscribe to File + Premium, or cancel it, in Google Play
- You can disconnect cloud accounts within the App
- You can disable App Lock or remove File Lock protections you enabled
- You can delete files, clear trash, and remove FTP connections at any time
- You can uninstall the App to remove locally stored App data, subject to Android system behavior
Depending on your location, you may have additional privacy rights under applicable law. To exercise them, contact us using the email address below.
11. Children’s Privacy
The App is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.
12. International Users
If you use cloud, advertising, or remote storage features, your information may be processed in countries where those service providers operate. By using those features, you understand that your data may be transferred across borders according to the provider’s practices.
13. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Effective date” at the top of this page. Material changes may also be communicated through the App or other reasonable means. Your continued use of the App after an update means you accept the revised policy.
